A few weeks ago I had the honor photographing my sister Andrea in her new art studio.
She is a great inspiration to me, not only is she an incredible artist but her work ethic is amazing!
While my sister always had creative careers she was not a full-time painter as she is now. In fact, while she raised her 3 boys, she probably did more laundry and driving to baseball practices than art! Her journey to where she is today is a super motivating one! Here’s the cliff notes on it!
6 years ago Andrea’s mother in law Anna passed away unexpectedly. Everyone was in shock. The idea that life can be taken at any moment and that it needs to be lived to its full potential now and not later was more evident than ever. Anna was a huge supporter of Andrea’s art and was always encouraging her to create. To process the passing of Anna, my sister turned to art, turning her grief into art.
Andrea kept producing and people were in awe her paintings. Her technique of layering her paintings was mesmerizing. One can get lost her paintings, there is always so much to look at. She starting sharing on social media, turning social media friends into supporters, cheerleaders and clients. Andrea’s art was speaking to people’s souls. Her use of color to portray whimsical characters and animals were making people smile. And we all need more of that!
In just a few years Andrea created great success for herself not only in her local city of Santa Cruz California but all over the world with the help of online storefronts like Etsy.
The end of 2017 was a big game changer for Andrea. She said goodbye to the corporate world and said hello to being a full time working artist! I had always been so impressed by the growth she created in the pockets of her time while she juggled a full-time job and raising children. Now with more time to dedicate to her art and a fierce drive to create, the world is in for a treat!
