I first met Baby Thomas when he was 4 weeks old for his newborn session. I was so excited to photograph his 1-year-old milestone session with a cake smash!
Thomas, accompanied by his Mama came into my studio on Sutter Street in Historic Folsom CA. I kept the photo session very simple to give the images an editorial look. I wanted baby Thomas to shine and not have distracting props around him. Mom came prepared with some outfits for Thomas and herself. To go with the editorial clean vibe we kept the outfits simple too- neutrals with denim. Plus this little man is so handsome why not make him look like he was gracing the pages of a magazine for Baby Gap!
Little boys, yep they always seem to be moving away from the camera and squealing with delight over it! To help with a baby that is on the move, I brought in some chairs. Thomas started off by using one to walk himself around the studio!

I love the pictures of Thomas and his Mama- especially the first one- it really captures his curiosity and her enthusiasm for watching him grow!
It was now time for what is called “The Cake Smash” in the baby and photography world. For those that might not know, many babies have their first taste of cake on their first birthday. A few years ago this momentous occasion of a baby eating their first cake on or near their birthday became a popular photo opportunity! I am so glad someone created the concept of this photography milestone as I sure do enjoy documenting it!

Much to everyone’s delight Thomas’s frown quickly erupted into squeals!
Don’t you just love that wrinkled nose smile!?
Well, there was no questioning it now, Thomas was having a good old time!!!!
Thomas, Happy 1st Birthday to you! It was a pleasure photographing your newborn session and your 1 st year cake smash! My how you have grown!!! You are such a fun and sweet little boy and let’s not forget deliciously handsome!
