Is a Newborn Photoshoot Worth It?
Welcoming a newborn into the world is a magical experience filled with joy, love, and unforgettable moments. Also stress and exhaustion, as a Mama I know this first hand!
My name is Susannah and I am a mama and newborn photographer in El Dorado Hills, California. I see that familiar look of exhaustion my clients’ faces. Especially those with multiple children! But in all my years of photographing little babies- I know that my clients never ever regret taking those pictures. It helps them remember a time that was so precious and fleeting!
Professional newborn photography not only creates lasting memories but also beautifully documents the innocence and tiny details of your little one. Here’s why newborn photography is so special and how to make the most of your baby’s first photoshoot.

Why Newborn Photography Matters
1. Preserving The Moment When they are TEENY Tiny
Newborns grow and change rapidly in their first few weeks. Capturing these early moments allows you to hold onto the precious details—tiny fingers, delicate eyelashes, and those adorable sleepy expressions—forever.
2. Creating Lasting Memories
A well-captured newborn photo session provides images that you and your family will cherish for years to come. These photos become treasured keepsakes, perfect for baby albums, wall art, and gifts for loved ones. This is what the grandparents really want for Christmas!
3. Professional Quality and Artistic Vision
My goal is to create timeless art with your baby! Using soft or natural lighting, natural poses, I will beauty of your baby in a way that smartphone pictures simply can’t replicate.

Tips for a Successful Newborn Photoshoot
1. Schedule the Session Early
The best time for newborn photography is within the first two weeks after birth when babies are still very sleepy and easily posed. Booking your session in advance ensures you don’t miss this ideal window. BUT if life happens as we all know it does….you can still capture so much of the newborn phase outside of the 2 week window.
2. Keep Baby Comfortable
A warm and cozy environment helps newborns stay relaxed and sleepy during the session. Using a warmer room, soft blankets, and white noise your baby will be nice and comfortable. Plus, you will be near by and baby loves that! You will also have as much time as you need for feedings and diaper changes. We will work on baby’s timeline.
3. Incorporate Family Members
Including parents and siblings in the shoot adds emotional depth to the images. Candid moments of family bonding make for heartwarming and timeless photos.
4. Be Patient and Flexible
Newborns can be unpredictable, so sessions may take longer than expected. Patience is key, and allowing time for feeding and soothing breaks ensures a stress-free experience for both baby and parents.
