To be quite honest I kind of feel like the holidays can be overrated. Between holiday cards, finding the right gifts, spending too much money… all that “Fa La La” stuff can be stressful and completely devoid of the real meaning of Christmas. Personally I am a BIG fan of Thanksgiving, just getting together with friends and family to reflect and eat! Simple. Well that was all before Jax. Seeing Christmas through the eyes and the laughter of a child was amazing.
Let’s start with that tree. Before we left for the trip Jax was trying to crawl but could not. When we arrived at my Mom’s we climbed the stairs into her house and into her living room and there it was. The Christmas tree in all its glory! You should have seen Jax’s face and hear his squeals of delight!! For one week that tree was non-stop entertainment and incentive. By the 2nd day Jax was able to move his body in a clumsy way towards the tree. By the 3rd day he crawled. By the 4th day he was a professional.
Here are some photographs of our 9th month together.
The tree delighted Jax…
and perplexed Jax. I think he was wondering why all those shiny ornaments kept being moved higher and higher up the tree by Nanny!
We prayed for snow and waited for it by the window… it never came. Jax’s first Christmas was green- in Buffalo of all places!
But hey, when you’re exploring your very first Christmas stocking that is just about the same size as you in a mini Santa outfit- who cares!?
Greg and I bought Jax a few things for Christmas, nothing crazy, we left the spoiling to Nanny! But one thing Greg was really excited for Jax to open was this soft little Elmo toy. Jax loves Elmo and Greg was hoping he would love the toy too.
Well, neither was disappointed!!!
Jax got old school with some Weebles!
The whole day into the night was magical. I didn’t want it to end.
But all good things must come to an end. And thankfully they do because by the end of Christmas day Jax was starting to morph into one of those Santa helpers!
Back in NYC with the January blues. For entertainment I would let Jax finger paint with yogurt.
So messy, so slimy and so much fun!
Without a Christmas tree Jax seeked out other shiny objects, such as the clock on the DVR. This became his new obsession, a real step down from a Christmas tree in my opinion, I’m sure Jax would agree.
The biggest change for us when we arrived back home was a having Jax crawling around our apartment. It was so funny to see him navigate the rooms and hallway. This is my view of him as I’m in the kitchen cooking… Jax crawling on past me…
…and on his merry way. Mr. Independent!
Oh my goodness…that hair of his! Love it.
Such beautiful pictures. Love the stocking and elmo shots.
And those last 2 are simply amazing.
Oh my gosh! The picture of him with Elmo made me cry! What an awesome shot of that child-like excitement! That’s passion! That’s life! I love it! P.S. I think my hormones might be acting up a bit today. LOL. But I do love that shot. PRECIOUS! *sob*
