Have you ever gone to see or listen to a motivational speaker that feels like they are talking directly to you? That they seem to know just what you’re going through? That they speak in a way where your mind is saying “YES- that’s happening to me! She gets me! She understands me!” It’s a pretty powerful feeling and if it’s coming from a great source, such as Mel Robbins, well that’s the best thing ever!
Mel Robbins was the most sought out female speaker of 2017! She is also the author of the International best seller book, The 5 Second Rule and Stop Saying You’re Fine. She just also happens to have a TEDx Talk with over 10 million views! Most importantly she is a wife and a mother to three children.
In October of 2017 I had the great honor of being part of Mel’s Creative Live class in San Francisco. Watching Mel speak to our small studio audience was mesmerizing. From her body language to her use of words, her tone of voice, her comedic timing to her ability to be vulnerable and real- Mel was brilliant. Just brilliant. And there she was just 10 feet from me! I was one happy woman as you can see in the selfie we took! While we are on this topic here is a great place to give a shout out to Creative Live as well, by far one of my favorite places to learn in person and also online!
What I love about The 5 Second Rule book and Mel’s teachings is that they are deeply based on science about the brain. The science around the brain is fascinating to me. Some of it is so complex though that is goes way over my head (and brain haha) but the way Mel speaks about it makes sense to me. Mel breaks it down in a way for NON Noble Bell prize winners like myself!
One of the free sources of information out there for all to enjoy and learn from is her 3 part series called The Spring Clean Up that you can find on her website. But honestly to really understand the bigger picture I suggest reading the 5 Second Rule book first. The story about how it came about is fascinating. I know people love to have a book in their hands but I can’t say enough about the audiobook. I have both. But I love listening to Mel’s voice, she narrates it herself and does such a great job!
At the end of the Spring Cleaning Mel offers an opportunity to apply for a scholarship for one of her mentoring programs. You have to create a 3 minute video answering a few questions. If you want to see out my effort to win a scholarship to continue my work with Mel check out my facebook video.
Do you know of Mel’s work? Do you use the 5 second rule in your life? Let me know in the comments!
