Family Photojournalism-Susannah Gill- Photographic Storytelling

On a regular day, with regular clothes a family’s love shines extraordinarily bright.  No need to get dressed up or wear matching outfits, all you need is to be yourselves and enjoy.  Read your favorite books, do an art project, make cookies, play hide and go seek and let me capture the moments, the expressions, the little hands and feet, the hugs, the kisses and the fun!  This is Family Photojournalism. The result?  Images that speak to the dynamics of the individual family members and of the family as a unit.  Photographs that make you say; “Oh I love that look in his eye when he is being mischievous!” or “I remember when she used to love sitting on Daddy’s shoulders while reading!” or “Can you believe his hands were once so tiny?”  Photographs that help you tell your family’s story in a genuine way, photographs that help you recall the love, fun and idiosyncrasies of your family.  That is Family Photojournalism!

Melissa and Jorge with their vibrant young children, sweet little dog and chirpy bird too, were an excellent example of the kind of family photography I feel so passionate about. I am so grateful they allowed me into their home and showed themselves to me as the beautiful family that they are… on a regular Sunday morning!
